End Of Life Care and Loss Of Pet

End-Of-Life Pet Care in Harrisonburg, VA

Administering Services with Care & Compassion

The loss of a pet is one of the most difficult experiences a pet parent will experience and is not something many want to think about in advance. However, if your fur-ever friend is a senior pet or has been diagnosed as terminally ill, it is important to take steps and make a plan to minimize any discomfort or distress they may have.

There are options to consider as your pet's health declines. You may decide to care for your pet at home with the supervision of a veterinarian, or you may decide to end their suffering with euthanasia. There is no wrong decision, and our team at Heartland Veterinary Clinic will support you in whatever you feel is best for your pet.

Our Services

At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, we offer pet hospice care – also known as palliative care – for pets in their final days or weeks of life. Our goal is to keep them as comfortable as possible with the use of pain medication, dietary strategies, and friendly human interaction.

We also offer euthanasia services. Pet parents can decide whether they wish to be present in the room during the euthanasia. We understand that this is a difficult time for you and want to help in any way we can to comfort you and your pet.

Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement

The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (APLB) is unique and is the only organization in the world doing what they do. Their services are free and available to anyone bereaving for a beloved pet. They pride themselves on incorporating the collective wisdom and experience of all our friends and members, and they make that freely available to anyone who can use it during bereavement for a beloved pet.
